Several “Net Zero Heroes” were moulded during a 2 week holiday camp
sponsored by NGC Green Company in August. The second annual Net Zero Camp
hosted by RE-NEW CARIBE (RNC) Energy, a renewable energy company operating
in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana was staged at the Couva West Secondary
school. RNC Energy specializes in energy management services and renewable
energy installations.
The 2-week camp held from August 5th – 16th was open to students ages 8 – 12
years and saw 20 participants sign up for what turned out to be 10 days of
interactive learning and activities. Among the topics covered were:
- What is Energy?
- Recycling
- Types of Renewable Energy
- Solar Energy
- CNG and Electric Vehicles
- Wind Energy
- Renewable Natural Gas
- Efficiency
The students also visited the new Solar park at the Piarco International Airport
and the Ortinola Estate in St Joseph.
NGC Green President Toni Sirju Ramnarine visited the campers and urged the
participants to enjoy and immerse themselves in the areas of renewables and
recycling as that is what a future world would be centered around.
Through expert- led sessions and immersive activities, campers gained practical
skills and knowledge in areas such as energy efficiency, sustainable design, and
environmental advocacy. They also had the opportunity to work on real-world
projects, such as solar cooking, learning how to set up a simple circuit.
